Growing up, faith was always a part of my life. I went to church, said my prayers, and did all the things I thought I was supposed to do. But somewhere along the way, the connection I once felt began to fade. Life got busy, doubts crept in, and I started to drift. By the time I reached my early twenties, my relationship with God had become distant—a memory of something that used to feel alive and real.
For a long time, I told myself I was fine without it. I focused on work, friends, and the endless to-do lists that filled my days. But deep down, I knew something was missing. There was an ache, a longing for something greater—something steady to anchor me in the chaos of life. What I didn’t realize at the time was that God was patiently waiting for me to come back.
The Turning Point
In 2022, at the age of 24, I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease. What started as minor symptoms quickly escalated into something life-changing. My health deteriorated in ways I couldn’t have imagined. I went from being active and ambitious to struggling with everyday tasks. The physical pain was overwhelming, but the emotional toll was even heavier. I felt like I was losing control of my life, and the future I had envisioned suddenly felt impossible.
In my lowest moments, I realized how much I needed God. One night, after a particularly tough day, I broke down in tears and prayed for the first time in what felt like years. It wasn’t polished or eloquent. It was raw, honest, and desperate:
“God, I don’t know what to do. I need You.”
That simple prayer marked the beginning of my journey back to Him. It was in my vulnerability, in the middle of my pain, that I began to feel His presence again.
Rebuilding the Relationship
Recommitting to Christ wasn’t an overnight transformation. It was a gradual process of rediscovery, like reconnecting with an old friend. I started small: reading the Bible and listening to worship music. At first, it felt unfamiliar, almost awkward. But as I leaned in, I began to feel the warmth of His presence again.
One of the most powerful moments came when I revisited the story of Job. I felt an immediate connection to his journey of suffering and faith. Job lost everything—his health, his family, and his possessions—yet he never turned away from God. He questioned, he grieved, and he struggled, but he remained steadfast. Reading Job’s story reminded me that God’s faithfulness isn’t tied to our circumstances. Even in our suffering, He is present, working in ways we may not understand.
Like Job, I began to see my challenges as an opportunity to deepen my trust in God. I didn’t need to have all the answers or pretend to be strong. God could handle my questions, my pain, and my doubts. His grace was enough to sustain me.
Lessons Along the Way
This journey has taught me so much about God’s character and His grace. Here are a few lessons that have been especially meaningful:
God’s Love Is Unchanging
No matter how far I wandered, His love remained constant. He didn’t give up on me, even when I had given up on myself.Faith Is a Relationship, Not a Checklist
For so long, I saw faith as a series of tasks to complete. Now, I understand that it’s about connection, trust, and intimacy with God.Grace Covers It All
I used to think I had to clean myself up before coming back to God. But grace means I can come as I am, flaws and all, and He will meet me there.
Moving Forward
Today, my faith feels more alive than it ever has. It’s not perfect, and I still have questions and struggles. Living with a chronic illness is challenging, but it’s also taught me to lean on God in ways I never did before. I’ve learned that faith isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about trusting the One who does.
Recommitting to Christ has been the most transformative decision of my life. It’s given me a sense of purpose, peace, and hope that nothing else can provide. If you’re feeling distant from God, I want you to know that it’s never too late to come back. His arms are always open, ready to welcome you home.
Thank you for reading and allowing me to share this part of my journey. My hope is that it inspires you to take a step closer to Him, wherever you are in your faith. Let’s walk this path together.
